How to Seal a Carton Correctly for Safe Delivery
· Packaging Tips
Correct carton sealing protects products during storage, handling and transportation. Poor sealing can cause cartons to open, products to collect dust or moisture, and businesses to spend additional money on repacking.
Start with the Right Carton
Use a carton suitable for the weight and size of the product. An overloaded, weak or damaged carton may open even when good-quality tape is used.
Keep the Surface Clean
Packaging tape performs best on a clean and dry surface. Dust, moisture, oil and loose cardboard fibres can reduce adhesion.
Use the H-Sealing Method
Apply one strip of tape across the centre opening of the carton. Then seal both side edges. The tape pattern will resemble the letter "H". This prevents:
- Dust entering the carton
- Side flaps opening
- Carton damage during transportation
- Product tampering
Apply Proper Pressure
After applying the tape, press it firmly along the complete surface. Pressure helps the adhesive form a stronger bond with the carton.
Select Tape According to Carton Weight
Light cartons and heavy cartons may require different tape specifications. Consider carton weight, surface quality, storage temperature and transportation conditions before choosing the tape. For assistance in selecting the right packaging tape, contact Skyline Industries.
